The mario & sonic series is a collection of crossover sports games featuring characters from nintendo's super mario series and sega's sonic the hedgehog series. This series marked the first time mario and sonic ever appeared together in a video game. Mario characters seem to have more personality than sonic characters, and it seems there are quite a few more mario characters than there are sonic characters.
(it should be noted that most of kirby's or hollow knight's cast fit into this, but i tried to keep it diverse).
